- You can announce job vacancies in extended form on the jobs page of the Neurofederation website, with a short announcement in the Neurofederation E-mail Alert.
- You get a free subscription for the electronic version of the European Journal of Neuroscience (EJN-on-line) if you are a paying member of one of the member societies of the Neurofederation (see listing).
- You have a profit of up to 20% FENS discounts on the journals Current Opinion in Neurobiology, Experimental Neurology, Glia, Hippocampus, Human Brain Mapping, Journal of Neurobiology, Journal of Neuroscience Research, Learning & Memory, NeuroImage, Molecular & Cellular Neuroscience, Neurobiology of Disease and Trends in Neurosciences.
- You can use the Neurofederation website as host for internet information pages of a meeting organized by you with the URL address www.neurofederatie.nl/yourmeeting at very low costs.
- Your name and affiliation will be taken up in a database of Dutch neuroscientists, that is coupled to a search function on the Neurofederation website for names and affiliations of individual members and will regularly be loaded in a similar search page of FENS and IBRO.

Current Friends
Friends of the Dutch Neurofederation
The Neurofederation requires no contribution from its individual members. This policy is specifically aimed at making membership easily accessible, in particular regarding junior researchers. The work of the Dutch Neurofederation is fully funded by the annual contribution from all the organisations that fall under the umbrella of the Neurofederation. With the expiry of an additional ZonMW grant (25 k€ yearly) in 2007, severe financial pressure was placed on the maintenance of the Neurofederation secretariat and a number of initiatives – valuable for the neuroscience community – could no longer be supported.
The Neurofederation Board thus decided to found the Friends of the Neurofederation (or simply Friends). The idea behind Friends is to alert both individual "insiders" (e.g., members of the Neurofederation) and interested non professional parties (i.e., government, society, public) to the importance of Dutch neuroscience. One objective is to strengthen the financial situation of the Neurofederation so that it may continue to serve the interests of its members and profession in an efficient manner. Friends is part of the Neurofederation, can count on its administrative support, but has its own management.
With the support of Friends, the Dutch Neurofederation hopes to address the following issues:
- Reduction of registration costs for Ph.D. students at the annual ENP Meeting. Currently, all participants are charged a fixed fee for secretarial support; with the help of Friends we plan to offer a reduced registration fee for Ph.D. students. A possible alternative, depending on the level support, is to cover the complete registration fee for a select number of Master students from all over the Netherlands.
- Since 2008, the Neurofederation Board organises a "social event" during the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN; the largest international neuroscience meeting in the world). This social event is extremely important to promote the interaction of Dutch neuroscientists working abroad (especially in the U.S.), keeping them informed about recent developments, and facilitating their return to the Netherlands. Part of the budget for this annual event will be covered by our Friends.
- Contributions by Friends will also be used to provide travel grants for young Dutch neuroscientists (Ph.D. and advanced Master students), facilitating their participation in international conferences, such as the FENS Forum or the SfN Meeting.
- Promoting neuroscience and its achievements to a broad audience is primarily an objective of the Brain Foundation (Hersenstichting). However, the Neurofederation plays its role in this area too, through the organisation of the annual Brain Awareness Week. Also in this case, the support of Friends will provide a more flexible financial situation, and even more will be achieved.
It should be made clear that it is not the purpose of the Neurofederation to become a profit organisation. The contributions received from all our Friends will be used directly for the support of the neuroscience community (with special attention towards younger researchers) and to make a wider audience aware of the value behind neuroscience research data. Annually, it will be the task of the Board of Friends to present a report on the use of funds during the previous year, as well as expenditure plans for the following year; both these documents need to be approved by the Steering Committee of the Neurofederation.
To become a Friend, please make a bank transfer to:
-
Stichting Vrienden Neurofederatie
ING-bank account number: 610339613
IBAN: NL66 INGB 0610339613
BIC: INGBNL2A
With 25, 50 or 100 euro you can become a Friend, Good Friend or Best Friend, respectively. Your Friend status will be visible through the pages of our website; unless, of course, you wish to remain anonymous.
Finally, we would like to remind you that every Friend of the Neurofederation receives a VIP treatment during the annual ENP Meeting.
Thank you for your interest in becoming a friend of the Dutch Neurofederation.
